When a new salon opens, having talented staff and delivering exceptional service is only part of the equation. The bigger challenge is getting people to discover the business in the first place.
At Boostify, we partnered with a newly opened hair salon in Kameari, Tokyo, operated by a single stylist. Like many new local businesses, the salon started with virtually no online visibility, very few reviews, and no established customer base. Despite offering excellent services and a great customer experience, potential customers simply didn't know the salon existed.
The owner faced a challenge that many small business owners can relate to. Established salons in the area had already built years of reviews, strong local recognition, and a steady flow of customers. Competing against these businesses while building a brand from scratch would not be easy.
Our objective was not simply to improve rankings or increase website traffic. At Boostify, we focus on business outcomes. The goal was to generate consistent bookings, build local awareness, establish trust within the community, and create a sustainable customer acquisition system that could support long-term growth.
Launching a new salon comes with several obstacles.
First, the business had virtually no online presence. Customers searching for salons in the area were far more likely to discover competitors with stronger visibility, larger numbers of reviews, and years of established credibility.
Second, trust had to be built from scratch. For many consumers, online reviews play a significant role in deciding where to book. Without a strong reputation, converting searchers into customers becomes significantly more difficult.
Finally, the salon needed results quickly. As a newly opened business operated by a single stylist, relying solely on word-of-mouth or organic growth would have taken considerable time. The challenge was to generate bookings in the short term while simultaneously building a foundation for long-term growth.
These challenges required more than a single marketing tactic. They required a structured strategy focused on visibility, trust, and customer acquisition—an approach that would allow the salon to compete effectively against larger and more established competitors.
To address these challenges, Boostify implemented a phased growth strategy focused on visibility, trust, and customer acquisition.
Rather than immediately increasing advertising spend, we first focused on building a strong local search foundation. The salon's Google Business Profile was created and optimized to ensure that business information, service categories, descriptions, images, and customer-facing details accurately represented the brand while maximizing local search visibility.
Once the foundation was established, we implemented MEO (Map Engine Optimization) strategies designed to improve visibility across Google Search and Google Maps. By targeting high-intent local search terms and continuously optimizing the profile, we increased the salon's exposure to potential customers actively searching for salon services in the Kameari area.
At the same time, Boostify developed a review acquisition strategy to strengthen the salon's online reputation. As customer reviews increased, so did trust, visibility, and engagement. Over time, the salon's Google Business Profile generated hundreds of thousands of views, helping establish strong local awareness and increasing customer actions such as calls, website visits, direction requests, and booking inquiries.
With a solid local presence in place, we began testing multiple Google Ads campaign types to identify the most effective customer acquisition channels. During the early stages, this included Search campaigns and Display campaigns, allowing us to gather performance data and better understand customer behavior.
As sufficient data was collected, we gradually shifted budget toward the campaigns producing the strongest results. Search campaigns became a key driver of customer acquisition by targeting users actively looking for salon services and ready to make booking decisions.
To further expand visibility and accelerate growth, Boostify introduced Performance Max campaigns. These campaigns enabled the salon to appear across Google's ecosystem, including Search, Maps, YouTube, Discover, Gmail, and Display placements, increasing both brand awareness and conversion opportunities.
Throughout the project, we continuously monitored search terms, audience behavior, conversion data, click-through rates, and overall campaign performance. Budgets, bidding strategies, targeting settings, and creative assets were regularly refined based on real-world data to maximize efficiency and improve return on investment.
By combining MEO, reputation building, and data-driven advertising, Boostify created a scalable customer acquisition system capable of generating both immediate bookings and sustainable long-term growth.

After 12 months of continuous optimization and campaign management, the salon achieved significant growth across visibility, customer acquisition, and revenue generation.
The combination of MEO, reputation building, Google Search campaigns, and Performance Max campaigns helped transform a newly opened salon with limited visibility into a recognized local business with a consistent flow of bookings.
Throughout the campaign period, Google Ads generated more than 861,000 impressions and 9,930 clicks, significantly increasing local awareness while driving qualified traffic from customers actively searching for salon services.
The campaigns also generated 1,620 recorded conversions, including phone calls, website visits, direction requests, and booking-related actions. While some customer interactions and bookings through third-party platforms such as Hot Pepper Beauty could not be fully tracked, the available data clearly demonstrated strong customer engagement and acquisition performance.
Most importantly, the salon generated more than 600 bookings during its first year of operation. For a newly opened salon operated by a single stylist, this represented a significant milestone and provided a strong foundation for future growth.
From a financial perspective, the results were equally impressive. With a total advertising investment of approximately ¥553,000, the salon generated more than ¥6.5 million in revenue, resulting in an estimated return on ad spend (ROAS) of 11.75x.
Beyond the numbers, the project successfully established a sustainable customer acquisition system that continues to support the salon's long-term growth. By combining local visibility, customer trust, and data-driven advertising, Boostify helped transform a new salon into a recognized local brand capable of competing with long-established businesses in the area.
